City of Sequim Sewer Overcharge
Your Board has concluded that the City of Sequim has apparently been overcharging Highland Hills residents for monthly sewer fees since 1999. Statute of limitations allows homeowners to make claims back to 2003.
The issue was summarized in the President's Letter in the Annual General Meeting package that was mailed to all property owners.
The HHMC President sent a demand letter to the City of Sequim in August 2009. The city has not yet responded to the Board's contentions. On Friday November 20, the City Attorney and your President opened preliminary negotiations which are expected to resume after the City completes its review of the matter.
Since homeowners are responsible for paying their individual sewer bills, a sample letter is available for you to fill in and send to the City of Sequim. The letter requests a refund for the overcharged amounts that you have paid and that your sewer rate be reduced immediately to the contract rate. We must act to let the City of Sequim know that we are aware of its apparent breach of contract.
